If you are undertaking heat pump comparisons, you will notice that the overall setup of this type of device is fairly typical. It will depend on the type of device you buy in addition to the dimensions, yet almost all devices run along the same rules. All would have a SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) in addition to an HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Rating).

The SEER score rates the cooling effectiveness of a device, the HSPF score rates the heating capability of the system. These are two principal factors to think about when conducting a heat pump effectiveness comparison. The greater the rating, the more cost-effective the device is. One significant aspect to mention is that just because the unit carries a higher SEER score, does not necessarily suggest it’ll have a higher HSPF rating.

That should permit you to compare the primary functions of your respective heat pump but can also cause it to be hard to understand how to make meaningful heat pump comparisons. The actual difference amongst apparatus is normally seen in the options you may choose for your new system. Comprehending what these supplementary attributes are together with how they perform will make your task not as difficult.

Heating pumps have been available now upwards of thirty years and are becoming steadily more well-known due to their efficiency and cost conserving elements that they can give to the buyer. These units actually utilize refrigeration concepts to create heat.

Because of the modern advances of today, you will find much more breakthroughs that are being made to many different versions, which gives reason for customers to make heat pump comparisons. With the numerous manufacturers that are on the market today, you want to obtain the design that provides the greatest effectiveness along with the maximum robustness.

This is a good word of advice to take into account when performing a heat pump resources comparison. What is going to be your main usage for this heat pump? If, for example, the chief use is to cool your house because you live in a very hot environment then zero in on a pump that includes a higher SEER rating. If you reside in an area that will need more warming than cooling down, then place emphasis on a heat pump that boasts a higher HSPF ranking.

Have You Heard of a Geothermal Heat Pump?

A geothermal heat pump is a great way to offset the high-energy costs we are experiencing currently. These machines use energy that is stored in the ground. They are designed to provide good clean, quiet cooling and heating. In addition, many people see their energy costs reduced by up to seventy percent.

One problem with a geothermal heat pump is that many people have never heard of them. Many people could be saving on their energy costs and they are not even aware of how they can do that. These devices work similarly to a standard heat pump.

The main difference in the two types of systems is that a standard unit will get rid of the heat through the outside air. The geothermal units will transfer the heat through their liquid filled pipes, which are buried under the ground.

Homeowners find that a geothermal heat pump does not require a fan to move air through it’s compressor coils. They pump liquid, thus they can be kept indoors away from the elements because they are quite quiet. Make sure the unit you purchase comes with a good warranty of at least ten years.

A geothermal heat pump is expensive to install, however because they are so energy efficient that the payback period could be quite quick. The installation can cost up to fifteen to twenty thousand dollars, this includes the pump, the controls and the underground loops. Some states provide incentive plans for people to install these systems.

Studies have been done that determine the average length of time to recoup the costs is only seven or eight years. However, this will depend on the local utility costs and how well your house is insulated, and the overall efficiency of the geothermal heat pump you use. Another reason for having one of these units installed is that it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

If you are looking for alternative methods to heat and cool your home, then consider investing in a geothermal heat pump and watch your energy bills drop considerably.

How Do You Measure Heat Pump Efficiency?

Are you looking for an alternative method of heating and cooling your home? Many people are turning to heat pumps. However, how do you measure heat pump efficiency? Well, there are four types of measurements that are used to describe the specific efficiency. Any of these specific measurements can be used at any one time.

This article will attempt to provide some light on the ways of determining heat pump efficiency. One method is to compare the amount of energy delivered by the pump to the actual amount it consumes.

One thing to keep in mind, when comparing measurements for heat pump efficiency is the higher the number, the higher the actual efficiency of the pump.

The most common measurement used for heat pump efficiency ratings is the Coefficient of Performance or COP. This refers to the ratio of the heat pump’s BTU heat output to the BTU electrical output. A water or ground source heat pump has a rating of three to five. An air source heat pump usually has a COP rating of two to four. When the outside temperature drops, the COP of air source heat pumps decreases. Therefore, when you compare these ratings, make sure they are based on the same outside air temperature.

Another method of determining heat pump efficiency is the Energy Efficiency Ratio or EER. This evaluates the efficiency during the cooling cycle of the particular unit. This rating is also used for air conditioners. If the EER rating is higher than ten, then that is a good machine.

Keep in mind that these heat pump efficiency measurements are basically factory or lab tests. The heat pump in question could actually have a different measurement in actual usage. The measurement could vary depending on the weather or how much additional heat is required. Therefore, the best or more realistic measurement is one based on seasonal calculations. The seasonal ratings are HSPF and SEER.

The Heating Seasonal Performance Factor or HSPF is another of the heat pump efficiency measurements. If the rating is between five to seven, then that is a good rating to have. SEER or Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is the measurement of total cooling in BTU’s. A good SEER rating is between eight and ten.

Question by Sharon K: Is a heat pump less effective in removing humidity within the house than an air conditioner?
We installed a new Trane 16 ser heat pump and a new trane furnace recently. The humidity within the house is high and the unit does not coool as well as our 25 year old air conditioner. I wonder if anyone has had this problem. I am very livid about the performance of this expensive unit.

Best answer:

Answer by sophist
A heat pump should remove humidity as well as an air conditioner in the cooling mode. It sounds like it is not quite adjusted out properly. I would contact the factory service and have them check it out. It should be a minor technical adjustment.

Benefits of a Home Heat Pump

There are many benefits to having a heat pump air conditioner installed.

A heat pump will provide you with energy efficient heat all through winter, and come summer will cool your home effectively.

If you suffer from asthma, a heat pump can help by reducing the relative humidity of the room, and filtering out dust particles and other allergens by trapping them inside the air filters. Reducing the humidity makes it easier to breathe and also makes the room feel less ‘stuffy’.

Heat pumps are also child friendly as there are no open flames or hot heating elements. Most heat pumps are mounted high on the wall or hidden away so the prying little fingers of children cannot get inside.

Most air conditioners today are ‘split type’ inverter heat pumps. A ‘split type’ air conditioner basically means you have an indoor and and outdoor unit with pipework connecting the two. An inverter heat pump means that the compressor speed is varied by the use of a DC inverter and speed drive. This enables the compressor to slow down in speed to maintain a constant temperature rather than cycling between full capacity and switching off every 10 to 15 minutes. Always opt for the inverter type heat pump as it will save you money on energy.

An electric heater converts electricity into heat, whereas a heat pump simply transfers heat from one source to another. This means that you can have heating or cooling by moving heat into or out of your room. It also means that heat pumps are very energy efficient as they can transfer up to 4kW of heat into your home for every 1kW of power used. Compare that to an electric heater that only generates 1kW of heat for every 1kW of power used.

There are a number of heat pump options available to you, dependent on whether you wish to air condition one room or your whole home.

To air condition a single room, a wall mounted heat pump is recommended. Wall mounted heat pumps can be installed high up (high wall), or low down by the floor like a conventional electric or gas heater. For two or three rooms, you can opt for a multi-split heat pump system. This means you have one outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units. Alternatively, you can go for a ducted heat pump system. These can be installed hidden away inside your loft, or under your floor and are connected to outlet grilles around your home.

The correct sizing of a heat pump for a given room size is critical. Too small and it will struggle to heat or cool the room. Too large and it will constantly cycle on and off. Always consult the professionals for correct sizing.

Your local air conditioning and heat pump specialists will be able to correctly size the heat pump for your requirements. Most companies also provide a free, no obligation quotation. My advice as an air conditioning and refrigeration engineer is that you should phone around for a number of quotes. This ensures that you can verify the unit sizing from a number of engineers, plus you can also save a few hard earned dollars.

Trane Heat Pumps Could Cut Your Energy Costs

Are you in the market for a new heat pump for your home? If so, you would be remiss not to include the Trane heat pumps in your market research. The Trane name is well known throughout the world, mostly for air conditioners though. However, they are making a name for themselves in these machines now as well. Thus, you can be assured that the same quality used in manufacturing air conditioners is being applied in the making of heat pumps as well.

Trane heat pumps have become one of the most reliable heating units on the market today. They are made with the most advanced technologies available in this area. When you purchase one of these units, expect them to last for many years. These pumps feature a digital thermostat, which allows the homeowner to program when exactly they want the house heated or cooled by these units.

If you use one of the several different Trane heat pumps then you should notice a savings on your heating bill. A good pump will also feature air filters to filter out dust and particles that are circulating in your home. You will need to hire a professional to do the installation for you. This is not a job that should be performed by a non-professional. It is very important to have it installed correctly.

Many people do not know how Trane heat pumps or any type of heat pump actually works. It is really quite amazing that they will heat a home in the winter and then cool it in the summer. These machines extract the heat that is in the air and then delivers it into your home. During the warm months, it acts in the opposite manner. It will pull the heat from the indoor air and release it outside to help keep your home dry and cool.

The name Lennox is synonymous with heating and cooling equipment. Lennox heat pumps are one of their most popular products. The company sells units to residential and commercial customers. Besides heat pumps, they also sell furnaces and air conditioners. When people look for economical ways to heat and cool their home they want a name they can rely on. There are quite a few reliable companies out there. If you do your homework and you should be able to find a product that works as described.

We will focus this article on Lennox heat pumps and the Lennox Company. Back in 1895, Dave Lennox developed his first furnace. Only nine years later, he sold the company and it was re-named the Lennox Furnace Company. It stayed that way until 1955, when it was re-named to Lennox Industries. They have sales offices all across North America.

Lennox heat pumps provide homeowners with a cost saving method in which to heat or cool the home. The pump transfers heat between the inside and the outside of your home. This allows it to heat the home in the winter and cool it in the summer. An example of one of their newer units is the PowerSaverT heat pump. It operates at a low speed when the weather is mild and when the temperatures are extreme it will operate at a higher speed. The two-speed efficiency will improve the air filtration and protects the machines compressor from wearing out due to the frequent stopping and starting.

Many experts believe that a geothermal heat pump is the best means in which to heat or cool your home. This type of pump requires only a small amount of electricity to run. This, it is good for the environment because it reduces the reliance on electrical power plants. They are also considered the quietest pump on the market.

In conclusion, when choosing a efficient and cost effective way to heat or cool your home, why not look into Lennox heat pumps. The more information you have about different methods of heating and cooling your home, the more informed you would be to make a good sound decision.

What is the Heat Pump Efficiency of Your Heat Pump?

Are you looking into purchasing a heat pump to either heat or cool your home? If so, what is the main function this unit will be used for? Heat pump efficiency ratings are different for each season. The ratings do not always correlate, so if your pump has a high SEER rating, it does not mean that it will have a high HSPF rating.

Therefore, it is important to prioritize your exact needs for this device. If you live in a warm region that will require more use of the cooling unit then the heat pump efficiency should be higher for the SEER rating. If you live in a cooler region, that will require more heating then look for a unit with a higher HSPF rating.

Every heating and cooling unit must have an energy efficiency rating. It lets people know how that particular model compares to other models and compares the different low and high efficiency ratings.

Now you are probably wondering what these two ratings actual mean. The SEER rating is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating and the HSPF rating is the Heating Seasonal Performance Rating. Each unit is thoroughly tested to determine the exact rating.

Heat pumps are used for both heating and cooling. These devices move heat between the outside and the inside of the home. They do not actually create any hot or cold air.

We can explain this better by stating that during the winter a heat pump will move heat from outdoors into the house. In the summer, they move heat from indoors to the outside. Usually these devices run on electricity, but some run off gas instead.

Heat pump efficiency also factors into the energy savings these units can provide. In some cases, you can save up to fifty percent on your heating costs.

If your heat pump efficiency is high then you could save even more money on your energy costs. A high efficiency heat pump will require less electricity to heat or cool your home, thus they are much more efficient.

However, these units are quite costly. Thus, you have to be sure that this is what you want as far as heating and cooling your home is concerned. Read as many consumer reviews as possible to get a good idea of what units are available on the market and which ones people are satisfied with and which ones are not receiving good reviews.

Photo slide show and video clips: OMG this is one fine install here……NOT! Check it out. You are looking at a new Trane XB13 Heat Pump. I had to go and do a WARRANTY leak check. First thing is (yet again) these guys install the access panel and refridgeration service ports into the corner where you have to practically lay on your side to access the refer and HIGH VOLTAGE! Not too mention if you EVER need to replace a TXV or Reversing Valve, you will need to uninstall the unit and remove it away form the wall! (Yup these guys care more about speedy install than future service. Kind of the WOODEN nickel holding up the SILVER dollar if you ask me!) Then I could not believe when I saw how cobbled up that suction line was to the new unit! Clearly the installers were short on copper that day. Company pushes the installers so hard to “Git-er-Dun” that they don’t ever DARE leave the job to get the correct part! (Again, WOODEN nickel holding up the SILVER dollar!) Worse yet is no one in the office believed me about the suction line reducing form 7/8″ to 5/8″ back up to 7/8″. But as you will see here, photos and VIDEO speak a thousand words!!! So who was lying suckers??? Yeah, thought so! I hope to GOD that someone in this city of Phoenix will stand up and please enforce HVAC companies to pull a damn PERMIT and get their sh*t inspected! The quality of work by residential HVAC contractors is so bad that it’s an insult to anyone who knows better, just to witness this kind of …

A Guide to Swimming Pool Heat Pumps

With the progress in technology, swimming pool heat pumps have become more efficient nowadays, than they were few years ago. If you have your own swimming pool, you must use pool heat pumps to heat it. Heating your swimming pool with pool heat pumps is an efficient technique of keeping your swimming pool comfortable in the entire swimming season.

Swimming pool heat pumps are usually the most effective method for heating swimming pools in warmer countries. They transfer heat from air to pool water quite successfully. When compared to gas, oil or electric heaters, pool heat pumps may cost much less, which can also save you a lot of money in energy costs. You may come across pool heat pumps that have dual temperature controls which will further enable you to heat your swimming pool at various temperatures.

What Swimming Pool Heat Pump Does

Swimming pool heat pumps usually heat your swimming pool to a desired temperature at a reasonable cost. You just have to set the device to a temperature you want; that is all you have to do. These heat pumps function great when the weather condition is not very cold. Pool heat pumps make use of the outside air as free energy source. Even if the outside weather condition is not great, swimming pool heat pumps will keep your pool in the desired temperature for a perfect swim.

Swimming pool heat pumps keep your pool heated at constant temperature; this type of pump heaters is an absolute requisite for someone who is a good swimmer. They are great for heating pools efficiently and quickly when time is a factor.

A pool heat pump functions in the similar principle as a refrigerator or an air conditioner, but in reverse. One of such units usually consists of heat exchanger, ventilator, condenser and compressor which also include a refrigerant.

How Swimming Pool Heat Pump Works

Pool heat pumps use electricity to operate their pumps; however, they may also use the sun-warmed air at times. A fan stirs the warm air through evaporator coil which collects heat from the atmosphere. The coil contains liquid refrigerant that absorbs the temperature from the air. After this process takes place, it changes into gas. The gas then is pushed into a compressor that further intensifies the heat.

After the gas becomes too hot, it shifts from compressor to heat exchanger condenser. It is here where water passes through, and cool swimming pool water is pushed through heat exchanger condenser. As it passes, cool water takes up the warmth from the gas. As a result, the water turns warm while the gas turns cool. If you have to maintain a daily, continual swimming routine, swimming pool heat pumps are just perfect for you.
